The Wines of Hiddencroft
At Hiddencroft Vineyards, wine begins in our vineyard and follows its own timetable. We grow Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, Tannat, and Traminette on our historic Loudoun County farm, crafting wines that reflect both the character of each grape and the growing season that produced it.
Some of our wines are enjoyed young. Others remain quietly in the cellar for years, developing through the extended aging we call Extended Élevage. Together, the wines we are pouring today, those still resting in barrel, and the vintages preserved in our wine library tell the continuing story of Hiddencroft—one harvest and one bottle at a time.

Explore Our Wines
Over the years, Hiddencroft has produced wines from several grape varieties particularly well suited to our vineyard and Virginia’s growing conditions. Each has its own personality in the vineyard, in the cellar, and in the glass.
Explore a variety to discover the wines we have made from it, past vintages, tasting notes, wines resting in our library, and stories from the vineyard and cellar.
Cabernet Franc
One of the signature red grapes of Virginia and an important part of the Hiddencroft cellar. Explore our Cabernet Franc vintages, tasting notes, library wines, vertical tastings, and Extended Élevage releases.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Explore the Cabernet Sauvignon wines produced from our vineyard and follow their development from harvest through barrel and bottle.
Chambourcin
A remarkably versatile grape and a longtime favorite at Hiddencroft. Discover why we sometimes describe Chambourcin as Virginia’s Chianti, and explore the many expressions and vintages we have produced.
Petit Verdot
Dark, structured and exceptionally well suited to extended aging, Petit Verdot has produced some of the most distinctive wines in the Hiddencroft cellar.
Tannat
Bold and naturally tannic, Tannat rewards patience. Explore how time in barrel and bottle transforms this powerful grape.
Traminette
Aromatic and expressive, Traminette provides a very different view of our vineyard. Explore our past and current Traminette wines.
Wine Takes Time: Extended Élevage
Most wineries measure barrel aging in months. At Hiddencroft, some wines have remained in barrel for years.
We call this approach Extended Élevage—allowing selected wines the time they need to mature rather than requiring every vintage to follow the same production schedule. Some wines tell us fairly quickly that they are ready. Others continue developing slowly, sometimes over four, five, six years or longer.
Our Extended Élevage program grew from years of observing what happens to Virginia-grown Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, Tannat and other wines when patience becomes part of the winemaking process.

Not every Hiddencroft wine is ready to meet the public.
Some wines are still resting in barrel. Others are approaching bottling, while newly bottled wines may continue aging before release. This is where you can follow what is happening behind the scenes and see what may eventually appear on the tasting table.

The Hiddencroft Wine Library
A wine does not disappear from the Hiddencroft story when the last bottle leaves the tasting-room shelf.
Our wine library preserves bottles from earlier vintages and provides a record of how our vineyard, our winemaking, and individual grape varieties have evolved over time. Some have become the basis for our vertical tastings, where bottles separated by many years can be tasted side by side.
The library also allows us to revisit wines that spent unusually long periods in barrel and to see what happened after additional years in bottle.
Explore the library by variety and vintage, including wines that are no longer commercially available.

From the Vineyard & Cellar
Wine is more than what finally reaches the glass. Our vineyard and cellar journal follows the seasons, harvests, experiments, difficult vintages, unexpected successes, vertical tastings, and lessons learned from making wine at Hiddencroft.
Extended Élevage
Stories and observations about the unusually long aging of selected Hiddencroft wines.
Vertical Tastings
Revisiting different vintages of the same grape reveals both the character of the variety and the history of the vineyard.
Vintage & Harvest Stories
Every vintage begins with a growing season—and no two growing seasons tell quite the same story.
Taste Hiddencroft
The best way to understand these wines is still the simplest: taste them.
